Our Mission: Strong Leaders

More effective regulation and supervision requires strong leadership to take on barriers that may include lack of political support, a weak legal infrastructure, institutional resistance, and resource limitations.

Since its inception, Toronto Centre has focused on empowering financial sector regulators and supervisors in emerging markets and low-income countries. Our programs develop their leadership capabilities so that they can better identify and overcome barriers to implementing regulatory and supervisory best practices in their jurisdictions. Programs also improve participants’ communication, persuasion, stakeholder management and negotiations skills, enabling successful interactions with the media, banks, insurers, securities firms, and other financial institutions and intermediaries.

Without strong leaders, financial systems cannot improve. In our programs, participants develop effective action plans for making changes in their home countries and practice how to convince stakeholders of their ideas.
