Toronto Centre proudly congratulates the sixth graduating class of the Women’s Leadership Program for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Patricia Peña, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister – International Assistance Partnerships and Programming, Global Affairs Canada, delivered congratulatory remarks at the graduation ceremony. She shared valuable insights from her distinguished career in the Canadian public service.

Esteemed women leaders, Elsie Addo Awadzi, Board Member, Toronto Centre, Dr. Vera Kamtukule, Minister of Tourism, Government of Malawi, Dr. Tukiya Mabula, former Deputy Governor – Administration, Bank of Zambia, and Manuela Zweimueller, Special Advisor to the Secretary General, International Association of Insurance Supervisors, also shared their leadership experiences with the graduates.

Toronto Centre designed this program to help to current and aspiring women leaders to excel in their roles. The program helps participants recognize the value of their unique experiences, skills, and perspectives in contributing to the success and effectiveness of their organizations. This program aligns with the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5: Gender Equality.

The program bridges theoretical knowledge with the practical realities faced by women financial supervisors and regulators in the workplace. Through interactive dialogue and practical exercises, participants learned innovative leadership practices and strategies. They also gained opportunities to apply their learnings within the context of supervisory agencies and central banks.

Toronto Centre has established a vibrant alumni network of women supervisors, enabling graduates to support one another, share experiences, and address common challenges. We are pleased to welcome our newest graduating class of 16 to this group.

Toronto Centre has been offering this coveted program annually since its launch in 2020, and will be offering the second cohort of this program for the Indo-Pacific, well as our advanced Women’s Leadership Program 2: Leading Change, later this year.
